In short
Friends Against Phones never sees which apps or websites you use, or for how long. Apple keeps that on your iPhone. We keep what the app needs to work: your account, your sessions, your groups and how many apps you keep. Your friends see your name, photo and Focus Time. We don't sell anything about you, show ads, or use analytics services.
Who we are
Friends Against Phones is made by Jayden Watts, in Minnesota, USA ("we", "us"). Write to jaydenwattsweb@gmail.com with any question about this policy or your information.
What we never collect
Which apps or websites you keep, open or are shielded from; your Screen Time totals; anything you do in other apps. The app uses Apple's Screen Time framework, which shows the app only coded references to the apps you pick. They stay on your iPhone and are never sent to us.
What we collect
From Sign in with Apple: an account identifier, and the name and email address Apple shares if you allow it (the email may be an Apple relay address). We use the name to suggest your display name. We keep the email with your sign-in and use it only to answer you if you write to us.
What you give us: your display name, photo and time zone; the groups you create or join, their names and photos; and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
From using the app: your focus sessions (when they started and ended, and whether the shield was on as it should be at each check-in); the Focus Time, goals, streaks and trophies that come from them; how many apps and websites you keep, and which friends approved your list; approval codes; and reports you make.
From your iPhone: an identifier for this installation of the app, so your account is used on one iPhone at a time; a notification token, if you allow notifications; and an App Attest key, Apple's proof that requests come from the real app.
Security records: a log of account and session events (for example, a session started, a list approved, a phone replaced), used to keep the service working and fair.
Problem reports, if Report problems is on (You, in the app): when something fails, such as the shield not coming on, with the app and iOS version. Never which apps or websites. You can turn it off at any time.
Why we use it
To run the app: sign you in, start and end sessions, count Focus Time, show your groups' boards, handle approvals, send the notifications you allow, and keep your account to one iPhone. To keep it fair and safe: stop faked sessions, look into reports, and enforce our Terms. To fix problems and improve it, from problem reports and overall figures such as how often the shield comes on as it should.
Who sees it
People in your groups see your display name, photo, Focus Time, unfocused time, trophies, whether you are focusing now, and how many apps you keep. They see which apps you keep only when you show them on your own phone to be approved. They never see your email.
We can see what is stored, to run the service, answer you and handle reports. Reports are seen only by us, never by the person reported.
Service providers, who process it for us and for no other purpose: Supabase (database, sign-in and photo storage, in the United States), Apple (Sign in with Apple, notifications, App Attest) and Vercel (our website, which sets no cookies and collects nothing from the app).
We do not sell or share your information for advertising. We would disclose it only if the law required us to, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete it (You → Delete account), we delete your sign-in, email, photo, sessions, kept-app lists, device records and problem reports, and revoke the app's access to your Apple account. What you share with groups stays in their history under the name "Deleted member", with no photo: the Focus Time on past boards, trophies and approvals you gave others. Reports, and the security log, are kept to deal with abuse and disputes.
Your choices
Change your name, photo and time zone in the app. Turn off notifications, problem reports or the Lock Screen timer at any time. Delete your account in the app. Write to us for a copy of your information, or to have something corrected or deleted; we will answer within 30 days.
Security
Information travels encrypted, and each person can reach only what the app is meant to show them. Sign-in tokens are kept in your iPhone's Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if a breach affects your information.
Age
The app is for people 18 and older. If we learn that someone younger has an account, we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and tell you in the app before a change that matters takes effect.
